I did some research, and this technically isn’t traditional Bolognese. It doesn’t follow the typical way that it would be made in Bologna Italy. This variation is more like Ragú Alla Napolenta which is a specialty in Naples. The battuto or raw base is the same: onions, carrots and celery. This variation of Bolognese uses red wine, tomato sauce (or crushed tomatoes like I used) and lots of basil for the flavor. (Other variations use broth or cream) Typically it’s served over a wider noodle like Tagliatelle or Pappardelle. I did it with Rigatoni, per your suggestion 😉
